Why SEO Experts Are in High Demand

November 29, 2009

With the rise in awareness in the public domain of the term SEO (search engine optimisation), SEO experts are now in great demand by ambitious website owners that want to increase targeted traffic to their websites. In order to generate leads, enquiries or sales via your website you need a professional that knows just how to get great results with a substantial ROI (return on investment).

SEO or search engine optimisation is the process of optimising a website in order to achieve top rankings on major search engines that attract vast numbers of searches every single day, which could be providing your website with lucrative sales.

Whilst it isn’t rocket science, search engine optimisation requires some hard work, smart strategy and patience, in order to achieve the substantial growth in targeted traffic that is possible for your business.

As more and more website owners become aware of SEO, it is vital that you have an online strategy to market your website effectively using an SEO expert with experience in successful campaigns.

Some of the more common methods of SEO are listed below, and if you follow these, you could be well on your way to increasing your targeted traffic.

Keyword Analysis

Often overlooked, this is the most critical stage of any SEO or internet marketing campaign or strategy. Knowing what your users are searching for around the world is vital to increasing targeted leads and turnover. If you are focusing on keywords that you think are important, instead of using professional tools to find out what users are physically typing into the major search engines, then you are wasting your time and money.

Analysing your keywords is of paramount importance and you should engage people around you for their ideas on keywords, until you build up a complete picture of possible keywords and thin filter out the ones that are not being searched for.

Meta Tag Optimisation

By properly optimising the meta tags of your website, you are effectively informing the search engines what the subject and content of your site is. This also helps traffic to your site from search engine requests in the major search engines. Optimised properly, you can attract more visitors using this basic, but often overlooked essential area of SEO.

Content

Good content is precisely what the majority of visitors and search engines want to see. If your website is to appeal to users, then your site should have fresh, relevant, targeted content that is there to provide a benefit to the visitor.

Whether you employ a copywriter, a consultant or an expert in search engine optimisation, you must have well-written, compelling and above all unique content, to stand a chance in the ever competitive internet.

This is just three examples of how an SEO expert would increase your traffic, leads and turnover. To get a full insight into how to obtain top ten rankings on search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN, speak to your local expert and find out what business you could be generating from this highly rewarding area of internet marketing.

Setting up Google Analytics For Your Bridal Shop’s Web Site

November 29, 2009

Google Analytics is considered by many to be the most complete package for tracking traffic on a website. It allows you to track the success of your content, your most popular items and a wealth of information regarding your visitors. Using this information effectively will allow you to improve your traffic, more effectively market your products and services and make sure your visitors keep coming back for more. The only barrier that stands in your way is the initial setup, so this guide aims to help you do just that. With this guide, you’ll be analyzing your bridal store’s website in just a few minutes.

What You Need

In order to use Google Analytics, you don’t need very much. Obviously you need a connection to the internet, a purpose for the tool (a website you’d like to track) and an internet browser. The main issue here is to make sure that you have access to edit the code of your website. Whether you do this by using a program, edit by hand and upload the files or use a service which allows you to edit the files in a web editor, it doesn’t really matter. The important thing is to make sure you can edit the actual code (HTML). If you don’t have access to the HTML of your site (contact your webmaster and tell him you’d like Google Analytics setup).

Step 1 - Signing Up

Navigate via your web browser to http://google.com/analytics and if you do not already have an account, create one by clicking the Sign Up Now link shown below.

Once you’ve clicked the link, you’ll advance to the next stage and you’ll need to confirm your desire to sign up to Google Analytics by clicking the Sign Up button shown below.

Now comes the important stuff. You should get a form similar to the one shown below. You’ll need to enter the URL of your website (basically the address your visitors and the rest of the public uses to gain access to your site) as well as provide an account a name (I usually just accept the default name the form generates) and specifying your time zone. After you do all of this, head on to the next screen.

Here you’ll enter your name, phone number and country in another form which is shown below. After you finish this form, go on to the next screen.

You’ll be taken to terms and conditions statement for the Google Analytics service. Read through it and if you agree to the terms then select the check box at the bottom of the statement to agree to the terms and conditions. It is worth noting here that by default, you are opted in to share data with Google. If you’d like to change these settings, you’ll need to click the Edit Settings link.

The next screen you should come to is the screen which contains the code (shown below) you must insert into each and every one of your pages you wish to be tracked within Google Analytics. You’ll need to copy the entire contents of the text box to get all of the code. Once you’ve got it all selected (ctrl-a on a PC or cmd-a on a Mac) and copied (ctrl-c on a PC or cmd-c on a Mac) you may want to save it to a plain text file for future reference or in case you forget and copy something else before you’ve pasted it in your code. If you don’t remember to do this, it is no big deal. We can get back to the code later. When you’re finished with this screen, go ahead and click the button at the bottom to finish the process.

Step 2 - Inserting the Code

This step is going to be different for each individual site, so we’ll cover the most basic methods here. First of all, let me reiterate that for most basic sites, you must insert the tracking code on every page you want tracked. This may not be true in the case of a site which is running a content management system or a self hosted blogging solution such as Wordpress which has header and footer files which are included on every page. In this case, you could put the tracking code in the header or footer files and it should theoretically work for each page without having to insert it multiple times. For a standard static site, though, your basic method is going to be as follows.

You’ll need to use your normal method of accessing your site code. Make sure you’ve copied the appropriate tracking code and navigate to the file for the page you want to be tracked. For the example below, I’ve just used a basic index.html file, which would be the root of my site - for purposes of this example, let’s call it http://www.example.com. Open up the file and look through the code until you’ve found the tag. This should be toward the bottom of your page. Immediately before this tag, paste in your tracking code. Do this for each page you’d like to track. See below for my example.

Note for Wordpress users - you can setup Google Analytics without editing any files by installing the Google Analytics for Wordpress plugin

Step 3 - Getting Acquainted

Once you’ve signed up for Google Analytics and have successfully logged in to your account, you should find yourself at the overview screen. From here, there are some important things to notice. First of all, you may notice that you have a warning icon (shown below) in the status column of one of your sites. This means that either you haven’t correctly pasted the code into your webpages or that there has been no traffic to the site since it was pasted so you haven’t received any data yet.

One way for you to get information regarding the success or failure of your tracking code is to go into the edit menu for that specific site. To get to the edit menu, you’ll need to look to the far right of the overview table along the row for your site and find the Edit link as shown below.

Once you’ve advanced to the next screen, you’ll see the Profile Settings for your individual site. You’ll see the information you supplied during your setup of the site as well as some additional information on Goals and Filters, but at the top right of the table, you’ll also see a check mark or or a warning sign as well as a Check Status link. Click the link to see some tracking status information as well as gain access to the tracking code, just in case you didn’t insert it correctly or forgot to insert it at all.

Another thing you should know is that in order to add more sites or domains for tracking, you’ll need to click on the Add Website Profile link below the table. When you click on that link, the site will essentially take you through a similar process to the one we’ve just outlined above. There is also a similar link at the top right of the overview table.

You should be set up by now to actually use Google Analytics as intended. You’ll find that it is extremely useful to be able to shift between reports based on Day, Week, Month or Year at the top right of the table. You’ll get access to different reports this way and you may find interesting trends you may not have discovered on some of the more long term views. Aside from that, it is best just to delve into the wealth of information Google Analytics can provide. Just click the View Report link and you’re on your way.

Web Design and Development - Want to Encourage Repeat Visits? Ideas to Generate and Update Content

November 29, 2009

If you want to be a successful web entrepreneur, you must learn to attract customers to your website on a regular basis. Design your content in such a way that it compels users to re-visit your site, and keep refreshing it weekly to ensure that each visit by your customers is meaningful and valuable. Outdated and irrelevant content can upset users and give them a reason not to return.

When creating and updating content on your website, remember to keep it simple. Do not overload your web pages with high bandwidth-consuming audio, video and animation features as that can considerably increase the time your web pages take to load. Delay irritates customers and discourages usage of your website. Here are a few effective methods for content creation and update.

Polls and surveys

Internet users look for instant gratification and interaction when they visit a web site. Polls and surveys is an excellent way to fulfill that desire and allow your customers to express their views and opinions. Ask them questions about the latest topics related to your website. For example, a fashion website can ask customers to rate celebrity outfits on red carpets. To encourage greater participation in surveys, you can offer visitors small rewards like discounts and vouchers.

To include a poll or survey on your website ask your web-hosting provider for easy to use tools. Alternatively, look for a free website service that can generate the HTML code for you. For advanced surveys, hire a survey provider who will take care of setup and reporting at an affordable price. Keep your polls and surveys short for the greatest impact.

Blogs

Use blogs to connect with your customers on a more personal level, to highlight your expertise and enhance your visibility and credibility. A combination of interactivity, collaboration and community makes them excellent virtual marketing tools. A blog with its many links can be very useful in directing traffic to your website.

RSS (Simple Syndication) Feeds

RSS feeds allow you to instantly receive and publish pieces of text, making them great tools for innovative marketing and content building. Add RSS feed from blogs and news articles to regularly attract customers to your website. You can also use RSS feeds to notify subscribers about updates to the website content. To test RSS feeds download and install an RSS reader or look for an orange button on your favorite sites. Most browsers also have built-in tools for viewing and using RSS feeds.

Customer driven content

Another excellent way of creating and refreshing content is to ask your customers to write it. The excitement of seeing their names on a website will greatly encourage them to contribute content to your site. This also saves money that you would have spent on hiring professional writers.

Daily or Weekly tips

Providing a tip, daily or weekly, is an easy way of refreshing content, attracting customer attention and facilitating repeat visits to your website.

Relevant and fresh content is crucial for the success of your website. Use these tools to develop effective content and give your customers a compelling reason to visit your website repeatedly.

Link Building With Internet Directory Websites

November 29, 2009

If you manage a web site which presents quality content, or if you are a writer and would like to expand your reader base, you can benefit substantially from inclusion of your articles or link in an internet directory website.

You may have heard about “link farms”, free for all link sites and other reciprocal linking schemes used in order to try to gain an advantage of higher positioning in search engine results; however, the major search engines like Google and Yahoo frown upon these and can actually penalize your site’s listing position as a result. Here are some suggestions to help ensure the success of your link building campaign.

Begin your search for a directory which targets a specific niche or one which has categories specific to the type of content on your own site. It wouldn’t make much sense to submit a link for a Dog Breeding website to an Automotive Mechanics directory website. Directories which cater to specific niches attract internet surfers who are seeking that type of information.

Once you have found a directory site with a potential fit to your content or product, review their submission guidelines to ensure that your link is a good fit to their directory. Reviewing and complying with submission rules saves you time and energy - not to mention that it saves the directory’s editor time too.

It is also beneficial to submit to a directory which is “human-edited”. A human-edited directory means just that, it is a directory in which link and article submissions are reviewed and approved by an actual human editor (or group of editors) and not just simply reviewed and visited by a bot. Human-edited directory sites tend to have only quality web sites included.

NOFOLLOW Link Attribute

The NOFOLLOW link attribute was originally intended and implemented as a way of fighting things like comment spam by preventing search engines from following the links placed in those comments. The general idea being that the page rank and relevancy of the the webpage would not be shared with the NOFOLLOW link, indicating a sort of “no confidence” vote. It has had little to no impact on comment spam.

Google, in particular, has repurposed the NOFOLLOW attribute by suggesting that it be used as a disclosure for paid links. Google has indicated that sites which accept payment for link placements which do not use the NOFOLLOW attribute will be penalized on their search results. It is in that way that you will sometimes see it used on directory websites.

The majority of directory websites who accept free submissions for links and articles will provide you with a “regular link”. A regular link will not utilize the NOFOLLOW link. But it is worth checking to know what type of link you will be getting from a directory once your link or article has been accepted.

Paying attention to submission guidelines and looking for human-edited directory websites is a good way of improving the impact of your link building campaigns.

Protecting Yourself From E-mail Scams

November 29, 2009

A lot of us are already well familiar with the annoyance of spam: unsolicited e-mail advertisements. In recent years, unwanted emails have evolved in an attempt to avoid increasingly advanced filters and wary recipients. We have put together a list of red flags to help you quickly spot e-mails that may be harmful to your computer and your bank account.

Suspicious attachments

Attaching files to an email is a fast and easy way to share files with your friends and family. The unfortunate downside is that unscrupulous spammers can attach files such as viruses and trojan horses in the hopes that an unwary recipient might download the file and infect their computer. Any time you receive an email with an attachment that you weren’t expecting, be cautious about opening the attachment or even opening the email.

Links that don’t make sense

In an email that claims to be from Yahoo, a link to a specific page on Yahoo’s site appears. So why does the text of the link not begin with “http://yahoo.com”? Because this is a scam. Many scammers attempt to gain account information or even credit card numbers by pretending to be respectable websites asking for information about your account. These emails will typically have a link to a page where you can reset your password, confirm your credit card information, or log in to access some special new feature. To spot these bad links, you will need to look at the url: the address of the page that is being linked to. All urls begin with “http://” or “htpps://” and from there vary from website to website. If the url isn’t visible in the link, you can hover the mouse over the link and see the url in the lower left corner of your web browser.

Notifications about accounts you don’t have

Virus spreading emails that disguise themselves as emails from major websites are banking on their recipients actually having accounts with that website in the first place. If you get an email notice about your facebook account when you never even signed up with facebook, chances are pretty good that this is a scam or virus email.

Password reset requests you didn’t send

One of the most common phishing emails currently is the fake password reset. These emails claim that you recently requested a new password, and direct you to a webpage where you can enter your “old” account name and password. You may be able to spot these emails by the link urls or because you don’t have the account that you would ly be resetting a password for in the first place. Even if you don’t see anything suspicious with the link or the account information, never respond to a password reset email that you didn’t specifically request.

Sender addresses that don’t add up

An official email from YouTube.com should be sent from an account that ends with @youtube.com. If “vanessa1997@aol.com” is sending you vital updates about your YouTube account, it’s a safe bet this is also a malicious email. If your email system hides sender information, you can change your settings to show full headers or usually click a link right in the email to show all of the sender information.

Money transfer plots

Frequently sent from Nigerian doctors or businessmen, these emails claim that there is some obscene amount of money sitting in an account somewhere that the sender wants moved to the United States before something happens to it. It’s not unusual for these emails to be all in caps lock and poor English, although there are exceptions. These emails are scam attempts, attempting to get your bank account information so that the sender can access your funds. No matter the pretense for the email, you should never share bank account information with anyone you don’t know. Newer varieties of these emails claim to be from “a member of your church.”

Suspect emails from friends

The most dangerous and difficult to spot malicious emails are the ones sent by your friends and other contacts. Usually if you get a suspicious email from a friend or co-worker, it’s either because their PC has been infected or because their email account has been compromised. If you find an email from one of your contacts that has strange characters in the subject, has attachments that you weren’t not expecting, links to a file sharing site, or otherwise looks different from the emails you’re used to from that person, take the time to contact them before clicking on any links or downloading any attachments.

Emails from yourself (that you didn’t send)

These kinds of emails can be disturbing when you find them. If you find an email from your own account sitting in your inbox that you know you didn’t send (and you have not granted anyone else access to your account) immediately change your password and security question for your account. After that, check out your “sent mail” folder to see if any other emails went out that you were unaware of. Let everyone who received one of these suspicious emails know that you did not send the emails, that they shouldn’t open them or open any links or attachments and that you suspect your account was compromised. You can also let your email provider know about your concerns. If this problem recurs, your system may be infected and require virus cleanup service.

As users and email filters become more aware of these malicious emails, scammers will develop new schemes to get at your computer, bank account, and other information. The best weapon against these attacks is a healthy dose of skepticism, though even cautious users can fall victim to scams and viruses. Kids Toys: Finding the Must Have Christmas Present Online?

November 28, 2009

Shopping for yourself is one thing. Shopping for kids? That’s a completely different story. There are a number of different reasons why you might have some difficulties shopping for kids. One of the biggest reasons is that it’s hard to figure out what is popular at that particular point in time. You will also need to determine which products are age appropriate for the child.

For instance, younger children can be amused rather easily. You could purchase them an action figure from a popular television show and they will most likely be happy. As children get older however, they become much harder to amuse. What you will need to do is determine what’s popular first of all and that may include checking over a few different websites or reading reviews.

Right now one of the most popular items out there are portable music players. Surely you remember being a child and carrying around your walkman. Now the compact disc has almost gone the way of the eight track, but music is as popular as ever. The most popular music players right now are MP3/MP4 players such as the iPod and the Zune, though there are tons of other and sometimes cheaper alternatives thrown into the mix.

Video games are also an ever popular choice. This started back in the eighties, but now they have become much more accessible. You will want to check into the many different game systems, including some of the portable ones. There are two major portable game systems on the market, the PSP and Nintendo DS, each child will prefer one or the other. You might find the occasional child that has no preference, but buying both may be a bit out of your price range; unless of course you decide to buy online.

Whatever it is you choose to purchase for a child, remember one thing: it’s always best to shop online. Why exactly? Well there are a number of reasons. First of all, the stores might not actually have whatever it is that you are looking for, either because they aren’t carrying it, or because it’s sold out. Normally it will be the latter and in that case going to the company’s website won’t help you. You can however go to auction sites.

When you choose to buy that hit Christmas toy from an auction site, be aware that you may be paying a bit more than you had planned. Most of the time, these can be purchased because the seller has gone to the store, stood in line and bought the last remaining toy. Because he or she has one of the last ones available, they can ask a bit more for it. This is just one of many ways that people can make a profit at Christmas time.

One major benefit of shopping online is that you don’t have to leave your house! You can simply shop and order from the comfort of your own home, which is enough reason for most people unless they actually enjoy shopping centers. So make this a great Christmas by buying online and enjoying all of the discounts!

How to Shop Online For Christmas Presents and Gifts

November 28, 2009

The holiday season is upon us and that can only mean one thing: presents. When it comes to presents there are a number of things that you will need to keep in mind. Take a step back for a moment and consider these following benefits when considering where you’ll be doing your Christmas shopping this year:

-Someone wants the product that you want and they will do anything within their power to get it. There are no exceptions.

-Parking lots can become lethal during the holiday season.

-With the increase in working hours, time to go to the stores and shop has become rather limited.

-A few clicks of your mouse can bring the products you want right to your front door.

There are clear advantages to shopping online, one of the major advantages being price. Prices are much lower online for a few reasons. First of all, the biggest reason is competition. The Internet is a crowded marketplace so stores need to be as competitive as possible when it comes to selling their wares.

As you know, all websites face some degree of competition. This competition is increased substantially when you are dealing with auction sites. For example, if you find a website whose prices are way too high you can always go on to the next website, but it takes some time to locate the ones with the best prices. If you are on an auction site however, you can simply go to the next listing on the SAME site. How convenient is that?

For the most part you are going to be attracted to the lowest price, though sometimes this isn’t always going to be the case. Something that you’re really going to need to look for is the quality of the items. For instance, if you are buying a movie or a game, you will want to make sure that it is in top condition. You don’t want to give someone a present that is incomplete!

This does not apply to rare items however. It might be impossible to find such things in a complete condition, but if so, you are advised to do so unless it is prohibitively expensive. On that note, online auction sites are a great place for finding items that are either out of distribution or sold out at the stores.

When you purchase online, always make sure that you buy from a reputable seller. In some cases you may pay for an item and have it never arrive, or it might arrive in less than desirable condition. This is not something that you want to happen, especially right before a major holiday. The best way to determine whether or not you are dealing with a reputable store or seller is to see what others have had to say about them. Look for impartial reviews and see how they rank; if they’re cost effective but rarely deliver in terms of service, you may have to look elsewhere.

Now that you know the benefits of online shopping, you should give it a try. Not only will you be able to find the items you want, you’ll also get to spend a lot more time with your family! It truly is a win-win situation, so navigate to an auction site, or the site of your favorite retailer to see what you can find.

Enjoy a Glamorous Christmas on a Budget by Buying Online

November 28, 2009

Christmas is a time of giving, but for many it is a time of budgeting. Budgeting can be a rather nasty thing around the holiday, especially when you consider the shape that the world economy happens to be in right now. But with the right money management, and a few good choices in location, shopping at Christmas time can be a breeze.

The best thing that you can do is shop online. You’ve probably heard all sorts of warnings about shopping online. Mostly it has to do with giving out your charge card information, but rest assured that if you shop at the right places, your information will be kept safe and secure whilst you are free to enjoy the benefits that Internet commerce offers. After all, online establishments that take credit information must go through rigorous testing and are constantly under scrutiny-as it should be.

When you are choosing a place to shop online you’ve got an almost unlimited selection. From small specialist stores to major international businesses such as Amazon, Play and eBay, the Internet is a crowded marketplace full of opportunities for a bargain. When you need to get something particular, that perhaps isn’t going to be available in most multi-purpose stores, you’ll not be short of companies willing to provide you with exactly what you want. This is one of the main beauties of shopping online.

Shopping online has another major advantage to offer those who would brave it, and this advantage is the huge competition that online retailers face. Think about it carefully. If a store is selling a product in real life, they don’t have to worry about whether or not someone will go to the next store over, because out of convenience they will stay in that store. When you are shopping online however, it’s a whole different story. If you suddenly decide you don’t like the price at that store, you can just go to the next store over.

For this reason, stores are constantly having an advertising battle to see who is better at their craft. One store might offer a discount on a product, and then the next store over will do it’s best to match that offer. This is the reason you will see “Online Only Discounts” for different products, especially for electrical such as mobile phones. There are some instances where you will see mobile phones for as low as ten pounds, which is amazing when you consider that they are usually sixty dollars and up.

There are many other instances of great online sales to be discovered, but the bottom line is that you should really give significant thought to getting online for your Christmas gifts this year. Not only will this save you money, it will save you an incredible amount of time. You will have more opportunities to sit at home with your family for the holidays rather than dealing with the madness of a shopping centre. As you can see, shopping online is a great alternative that should be considered by anyone. Check out your online stores and see what you can find!

Before using this internet connection and decide whether the service will be right for you or not, it is very important to know how it works. Here below are some of the important points to learn from:-

• Broadband internet connection is a type of network which supports an extensive array of frequencies, usually from video to audio frequencies. Any broadband channel is able to carry several signals by separating the total capacity into independent, multiple bandwidth channels.

• The broadband connection uses the optical fiber to transmit the signals. This accounts for the higher connectivity, speed and retention capacity. Due to the higher speed, it takes just seconds to open a web page. Compared to other internet communication network, the broadband connection uses megabytes per second to transmit the signals.

• In some of the advanced broadband networks, the connectivity is done through the satellite. This increases the speed by a greater extent.

• The main part of the broadband connection is the router. The router is a special type of network device which catches the signals and sends it back to the computer. The router, on the other hand is connected to the telephone wire from where the main signal is transferred.

Once you come to understand the basic operation of the broadband connectivity, you can easily use it to stay connected every time.
